Throwing stick and boomerang ethnology among traditionnals cultures

Australian Aboriginal peoples are known for their intense use of the throwing stick and boomerangs almost all over this continent
This continuous use of throwing stick by Aboriginal people from prehistory to XVIII siecle when european came in contact with these population contribute to make know this particular hunting weapon. European first migrants have been fascinated by the famous returning stick called later "boomerang" which they bring back from australia and from which they start to craft their own modern boomerang in modern material. These boomerangs, imitated from traditionnal Aboriginal boomerang leads to the sportive and leisure boomerang discipline existing nowaday.

Not far from australia we can find some throwing sticks in indonesian islands and in  western polynesia

In Africa we could find few ethnologic traces od use of the throwing stick which is indeed very ancient on this continent

On the American continent, in Arizona, Hopi indians used rabbitstick(throwing stick) for  rabbit hunting

In India, some throwing sticks with elliptic or rectangular sections and sometimes heavy(up to 500 g) were used to hunt deer, rabbit but sometimes tigers! they were also war weapon
