European Prehistoric Shooting Championship: Throwing stick discipline
Welcome to this page dedicated to the development of the throwing stick within the European Prehistoric Shooting Championship.
As a Prehistoric hunting weapon and the predecessor of the famous
boomerang, the throwing stick (aka hunting stick or killing stick)
deserves its rightful place alongside the assegai propellant or the
primitive bow.
Indeed, often underrepresented in archaeology, since wood preservation
is quite rare for the Paleolithic period, the throwing stick was used
on all 5 continents as demonstrated by the few discoveries and the many
ethnological uses seen across the world.
It can be said that alongside the stone throwing technique, the hunting
stick technique followed the various civilizations from the beginning
of humanity.
The goal of this event is to revive this prehistoric hunting stick
technique, try to evaluate the accuracy and performance of these
projectiles and to showcase to the general public this discipline
during the championship within the Prehistoric museums event
association.
It's also about physical activity that is fun and demanding, and to
make it available to all while following the existing spirit of the
European Prehistoric Shooting Championship.
In order to introduce the basics to the organizers who wish to include
a throwing stick event, rules have been set and successfully
implemented in Auneau back in December 2011.
This is just the first step that will be developed and adjusted with
the evolution of the discipline and with the growing interest of the
participants.
